Many of the patients we serve have been fortunate to have experienced many years and seasons, eventually arriving at the winter of their life. This is not one of those stories.
We were called upon to care for a young mother in her early thirties whose winter came too soon. She admitted to Custom Care following a terminal diagnosis of cancer which she had endured while pregnant with her youngest son. She had two other young sons and a daughter with whom she spent most of her last weeks trying to create as many memories as possible. Her time with Custom Care was brief, this disease progressed quickly and she ultimately succumbed to her illness in a GIP unit following all efforts to maintain her status at home. Before she passed, Karen Britzky and Dena McNickle began a plan to preserve a memory for the children of this young patient. They obtained her fingerprint and crowdfunded the amount needed to commission fingerprint necklaces for all four of her children. The empathy and care that our Dena and Karen had for this patient resulted in a precious keepsake her children will have forever.
Custom Care and the community we serve are so fortunate to have Karen and Dena. Thank you for providing life-changing service.
Life-changing service. That’s the goal and guiding principle for what we do. We aim to provide excellent care whether that be through one of our home health agencies or at one of our senior living communities.
